Placera vid en å, i skuggan under träden

en Daphne uti schäferhatt                i lintygsärmar bar och platt
you put a Daphne with a shepherdess hat, in a linen blouse;

med röda snörband i korsetten,  och mycket rosor i houletten;
with red laces in her corselet, and plenty of roses in her shepherdess staff;

en Coridon, som smilar flatt, ser hjärtans flepig ut och kärlig
a Corydon, who shyly smiles,  and who looks lovesick and silly

med flöjt i hand         (en flöjt är oumbärlig).
with a flute in his hand (a flue is indispensable).

Och vippor i hans stav,     och gullgult knutet hår
And panicles in his staff, and golden yellow tied hair,

och vita ben och gröna lår.

Skog, ängar, bete, sol och vår,
Forests, meadows, pastures, sun and spring,

en fähund och en skock med får
a shepherd's dog and a flock of sheep

som stundom flöjer,    stundom går
that now jumps fences, then walks sedately

i herdens vårdnad, spak och säker;
in the protection of the trustworthy shepherd;

se, det är en idyll, som äntlig man förstår,
see there an idyll,  that in any case you can grasp,

så sann och menlös              att den bräker.
